Middle School Camps

Mid-GLAM–Materials Science & Engineering [*EAGER] (6/12 - 6/16) Local Day camp, Grades 7 - 9: Think like a “materials scientist” by studying “stuff”. From the clothes we wear to the batteries that power our phones, all of that “stuff” is made of materials like plastic or metals. A materials scientist investigates how materials are put together, how they can be used, and how they can be changed or improved. [more details]
EV-olution: Designing and building a small electric car (6/20 - 6/23) Local Day Camp, Grades 6 - 9: Learn design thinking and apply it to projects such as building a small electric car. [more details]

High School Camps

Molecule Maker Camp (6/19-6/24 Residential or Commuter), Grades 9-10: Join the Molecule Maker Camp, where you will explore the exciting world of making molecules using artificial intelligence. This in-person camp will showcase the overlap of chemistry, chemical engineering, automation, and computer science. [more details]
People Designing for People: Exploring Relationships Between Human Centered Design & Engineering (6/19 - 6/24 Residential OR (6/12 - 6/16 Day Camp), Grades 10 - 12: Human-Centered Design (HCD) is a problem-solving approach that uses design thinking tools to first explore and define problems, then develop and sustain innovative and meaningful solutions. Electrical & Computer Engineering (7/23 - 7/29) Residential, Grades 10 - 12: Explore the depth and breadth of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Campers learn how research in this discipline benefits society. The technical program includes classroom instruction, demonstrations, hands-on activities, tours, usage of research facilities, and four team projects. The curriculum showcases practical applications of ECE (circuits, signals, electromagnetics, power, nanotechnology, solid-state electronics, and photonics) by investigating a real-world technology – the cell phone. GEMS-Materials Science & Engineering [*EAGER] (7/9 - 7/15) Residential, Grades 10 - 12: Everything is made of materials. From buildings to batteries, clothing to cars, we depend on materials for many things in our everyday life. Materials science and engineering (MatSE) is all about understanding the structure and properties of materials ranging from the atomic scale to the macro-scale. Then we learn how to process them to get desired performance in new and existing technologies. [more details]
Illinois Aerospace Institute Session II (7/16 - 7/22) Residential, Grades 9 - 12: Hands-on learning experiences to design model gliders and egg-drop landers. [more details]
LEAP: Learning Electronics, AI, and Programming [*IDEA] (6/25 - 7/1) Residential, Grades 10 - 12: Learn about electrical engineering and computer science. You will learn how individual components of an embedded system work and how to combine them to create a portable weather station. [more details]
